RAVENNA

Ravenna is the capital city of the Province of Ravenna in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It was the capital city of the Western Roman Empire from 402 until that empire collapsed in 476.

conquered in 540 by the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire. The district of Ravenna is the second largest in Italy, exceeded only by that of Rome, and takes up more than a third of the province.

The Tre Moschettieri Camping Village is only 30 km the town and it is easily reachable by car. Ravenna is famous worldwide for its mosaics. This city was the last chief town of the Western Roman Empire and the capital of the Byzantine power in Italy.

Visiting the city of Ravenna is like making a trip back in time: in fact, there are many monuments and sights that make this city unique. Ravenna is an important treasure of art, history andculture, a city of ancient origins with a glorious past. As an evidence of this extraordinary period of greatness there are the precious mosaics, kept in its early Christian and Byzantine ancient buildings.

Eight of these monuments are in the World Heritage List of UNESCO for their universal value, uniqueness and mastery of their mosaic art: the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Orthodox Baptistery, the Arian Baptistery, the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, the Chapel of Sant’Andrea, the Mausoleum of Theoderic, the Basilica of San Vitale and the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe.

Among the other monuments the funeral ceremony of Dante Alighieri is also worth to be mentioned, which was held in 1321. The poet is buried in a tomb annexed to the church, the local authorities having resisted for centuries all demands by Florence for return of the remains of its most famous exile.

Ravenna, however, is not only famous for its culture and art, but also for its amusement park Mirabilandia located in Savio, a frazione of Ravenna. It has an area of 30 hectares, with an additional waterworld area of 10 hectares, called Mirabilandia Beach. The most notable attractions are the Katun inverted roller coaster and the iSpeed launched coaster. It has the world's tallest Watercoaster, the "Divertical" with a height of 60 m.
